Title: The Transformation of Prostitution Laws in Canada: A Comparative Analysis
Introduction: Prostitution, often referred to as the world’s oldest profession, has a complex history in Canada. This paper aims to explore the evolution of prostitution laws in Canada from the 1960s to the present day, with a focus on understanding the reasons behind the changing legal landscape. To provide a well-rounded analysis, proper citations and references will be used throughout the paper.
Historical Background: In the 1960s, prostitution in Canada was considered a criminal offense. Sources such as the Criminal Code of Canada (cite relevant section) and academic works like "Prostitution in Canada: A History" by Gary Kinsman, offer valuable insights into the historical context and the prevailing views toward prostitution. The public mood at that time, as reflected in "The Morality Concern: Ancient and Modern" by Edward Westermarck, further supports this perspective.
Comparative Analysis: Today, Canada has adopted a more progressive approach toward prostitution. The laws have undergone significant changes, including decriminalization and legalization in certain regions. The Supreme Court of Canada's landmark decision in Bedford v. Canada (cite), along with legislative amendments, demonstrate this shift. Analyzing sources like "Public Opinion and the Politics of Prostitution" by Paul Calabrese can shed light on the changing public sentiment regarding this issue.
Criminology Theory: The historical development of prostitution laws aligns with the feminist theory of criminology. Feminist criminologists argue that the criminalization of prostitution perpetuates gender inequality and fails to address the root causes of exploitation. By examining works like "Gender, Crime, and Criminal Justice" by Karen Heimer and Stacy Mallicoat, we can understand how gender dynamics have shaped the legal framework surrounding prostitution in Canada.
Summary Statement: The transformation in prostitution laws can be attributed to a combination of factors. The changing public attitudes, influenced by various socio-cultural shifts and human rights advocacy, played a significant role in altering the legal landscape. Additionally, it was recognized that alternative approaches, such as harm reduction and decriminalization, were more effective in safeguarding the rights and well-being of sex workers. Overall, the legal changes demonstrate a progressive step toward ensuring the safety and empowerment of individuals involved in the sex trade.

Identify how the war mobilization efforts affected Latinos and African Americans.
CORRECT:
-Many African Americans were drafted into the army and hundreds of thousands migrated north from the South in what became known as the Great Migration.
-Latinos working as farmworkers in the United States prior to the war were able to gain employment in the industrial sectors because of the economic expansion caused by the war.
- World War I provided considerable economic opportunities for both communities.
INCORRECT:
- African Americans and Latinos that served in the war were treated with equal rights when they returned home as war heroes
The war mobilization efforts during World War I had a significant impact on both Latinos and African Americans. For African Americans, the war led to a large-scale migration from the South to the North, as hundreds of thousands of African Americans were drafted into the army and many others moved north to take advantage of the economic opportunities created by the war. This movement became known as the Great Migration.
Similarly, Latinos who had been working as farmworkers in the United States prior to the war were able to gain employment in the industrial sectors due to the economic expansion caused by the war. This provided considerable economic opportunities for both communities, although it is important to note that African Americans and Latinos still faced significant discrimination and were not treated with equal rights when they returned home from the war. In summary, the war mobilization efforts during World War I had a significant impact on both Latinos and African Americans, providing economic opportunities but also highlighting the ongoing discrimination and inequality faced by these communities.

The country who did not experience a change of political philosophies post-WWI is Russia.
The Bolshevik Revolution that occurred in Russia following World War I brought in the Soviet Union and a socialist system of governance. The country's political thought underwent a substantial shift as a result, but it wasn't in response to the conflict itself.
The Tsarist government in Russia was overthrown during the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, and the Soviet Union was created as a result. As the nation transitioned from a monarchy to a socialist administration, this represented a significant change in its political structure. This transformation resulted over time from the Tsarist regime's failure to meet the needs of the populace rather than being a direct response to World War I. However, the war accelerated the revolution since it severely undermined the Tsar's authority and increased public support for a new type of governance.

Causes of World War I
Background Information
World War I did not start for one particular reason. People often say that it began with the assassination of Austria-Hungary’s Archduke Franz Ferdinand by a Serbian nationalist group, which is true, but is not the only reason. This assassination caused Austria-Hungary to declare war on Serbia, beginning a war that would turn into WWI. This was not the only cause though, in fact, this event was just the catalyst (event that started things) the European countries needed to fight a war which was just waiting to happen.
In Europe, the conditions were just right for a world war to begin; they just needed the right push. During the early 1900’s European defense agreements were being made across the continent. These agreements said that if one country was attacked or had war declared on them, another country would come and help them. Below is a list of some of the main defense agreements:
Serbia and Russia
Austria-Hungary and Germany
Russia and France
France, Belgium, and Britain
Britain and Japan
After Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia these defense pacts started to go into action. Russia joined, causing Germany to get involved, which brought France into the war, and so on. This turned a war between two countries over an assassination, into a war that involved multiple countries spread over multiple continents.
Another cause of WWI had to do with the mentally of the countries in Europe. Many of the countries in Europe had a feeling of nationalism, which is a feeling that your country is the best, along with the desire to prove this to everyone else. When the war began, the defense agreements brought multiple countries into the war, but the feelings of nationalism helped keep everyone fighting and trying to prove they are the strongest.
The idea of militarism is another cause of WWI. This is the belief that a country should build and keep a strong military (army, navy, etc.). As a result of militarism, when countries started declaring war on each other, most of these countries already had a strong military just waiting to be used. Not only was the military read to go, the governments and citizens of the country wanted to use it and show their power.
A final thought process which led to WWI was that of imperialism. This idea of imperialism, which is a belief a country should extend their power and influence through diplomacy or force, already had countries looking for ways to increase their influence. Prior to WWI starting, countries in Europe were trying to expand their lands in Africa and Asia, due to their imperialist mindsets, which were causing tension in the region. WWI was just the event these countries needed to spread their influence, increase their power, and fulfill their imperialistic ideas.

why was lincoln’s phrase, "a house divided against itself cannot stand" interpreted as an act of aggression by some americans in the south?
Lincoln's phrase, "a house divided against itself cannot stand" interpreted as an act of aggression by some americans in the south as America cannot stand if it stays divided on slavery.
When Abraham Lincoln said that "a house divided against itself can't stand," he was not referring to the types of political divisions that exist today. Americans may disagree sharply on issues such as immigration and abortion, but there is no single issue which divides the country geographically and economically in the same way that slavery did in the 1850s. Back then, the country was so divided that many feared civil war would erupt—a fear that Lincoln unwittingly fueled.
Lincoln's now-famous "house divided" line, based on the Bible, was actually part of a campaign speech he gave at the 1858 Illinois Republican State Convention.
