An argument about the relationship between suffering and creativity? Is there something inherent about suffering that enables artist to make great art ?

Answers

Hello there! :D

I don't want to give you a copy-paste answer but I am willing to discuss and talk about my thoughts on this idea.

This is a quote from Nicholson Baker in his book The Anthologist:

You have to suffer in order to be a human being who can help people understand suffering.

And this quote is from Aristotle:

Learning is not childs' play. Learning is pain.

Experience and connection result through shared experiences, most of them involving pain and suffering because we live in a broken world with imperfect people. Pain and suffering is ultimatley an outlet for connection. Connection and collaboration lead to new ideas and new ideologies. It leads to creation! Ultimatley, the way a person connects with the world is also the way that a person sees the world. Creativity stems from this, this view of the world. There is something inherenet about suffering that makes great art. Nothing truly beautiful was special because it was beautiful, but because it was hard to make and create. Michelangelo's work wasn't special because he was Michelangelo, but because his art was created through labor and pain and time, all finitie limitations that human beings have. Our sufferings.

The quotes are here to help you see the connection between my thoughts and the questions you presented. Feel free to use them and think about them!

1. Read the following passage carefully and answer the questions that follow: (10) Once upon a time in a village, a farmer had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to a moneylender who was old and ugly. However, the moneylender fancied the farmer’s daughter. So he proposed a bargain. He said he would forgo the farmer’s debt if he could marry his daughter. Both the farmer and his daughter were horrified by the proposal. The cunning moneylender suggested they let Providence decide the matter. He said he would put two pebbles into the money bag–one black and one white. If she picked the white one her father’s debt would be forgiven and she need not marry the moneylender. If she picked the black pebble her father’s debt would still be forgiven, but she would have to marry the moneylender. And if she refused to pick any pebble her father would be thrown into prison. The three of them were standing on a pebble strewn path in the farmer’s field when the money lender bent down to pick up the pebbles. The sharp eyed girl noticed that the money lender had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the girl to pick up a pebble. The girl drew out a pebble. Without looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall on to the pebble strewn path where it got mixed up among the other pebbles. “Oh! How clumsy of me,” she said, “but never mind if you look into the bag for the one that is left, you will be able to find which pebble I picked”. Since the remaining pebble was black, it was assumed that the girl had picked the white one and since the moneylender dared not admit his dishonesty, the girl changed an impossible situation to an extremely advantageous one! 1.1 On the basis of your reading of the passage, complete the following statements: (8) (a) The moneylender proposed a bargain that he would forgo the farmer’s debt if _____________. Today, March 15, 2014, the residents of New York City took advantage of the spring weather to join the NYC Historical Society in burying a time capsule. Their hope is that on March 15, 2114, it will be opened and the future residents of NYC will have a testament of what life was like 100 years in the past.

Locked away in the titanium cylinder are important artifacts from the present day. "I want people of the future to understand what our lives were like, day to day — how we communicated and how we spent our days," said 14-year-old Sylvia.

"Yeah, when they open this," exclaimed middle school student, Devonne, "they are not going to believe their eyes!"

The objects inserted into the time capsule are varied. They were chosen by citizens from all walks of life and professions. Among those asked to contribute to the time capsule were librarians, teens, computer programmers, medical professionals, research scientists, gardeners, neurologists, biologists, and more.

Etched onto the surface of the time capsule are the words of the author, William Faulkner, as he accepted the 1950 Nobel Prize for Literature:

"I believe that man will not merely endure: he will prevail. He is immortal, not because he alone among creatures has an inexhaustible voice, but because he has a soul, a spirit capable of compassion and sacrifice and endurance."

The capsule was buried today, with much hope for the future.

Free the Real NYC lie in the gutters, trampled by terrified and panicked citizens.

Two teens Jack and Lily are on their way home from their secret meeting. They were trying to find a time capsule, said to have a weapon to help defeat them

enemies. Disappearing into the shadows trying to stay under cover. Stumbling

along the dark alley on their way, Lily tripped on something. It had a weird

shape, both Lily and Jack were curious and started to dig it out. It was a huge heavy titanium cylinder. There were words scratched out but the ones

understood were” he will prevail”. With effort they dragged the cylinder out and

what they looked upon leaves them speechless.

It was a long time since they had hope, inside the capsule were antiques, secret

science development plans, and much more. But the object that interested both the

children were an old statue that was said to have great power. Unfortunately, they

had no idea how to activate this weapon. However, they did know someone who

would know, it was the secret agency they work for they all had been looking for this

weapon for years since Peril’s rule. After contacting their agency or as the kids called it NSA New York’s Secret Agency. The head of NSA immediately commanded that

they were to bring the time capsule to them though it won’t be a trouble-free journey

the fate of New York lied on their shoulders. He directly stated, “The weapon you

currently hold holds the key to freedom. Peril will stop at nothing to stay ruler of New

York City.”. They were also informed that one of Peril’s employees had spotted them

and they were going to be followed. Peril and his companion Danny will stop at

nothing to foil the teen's plans for freedom.

With this information, Jack and Lily immediately set off. It was not possible to carry

the whole capsule or even disguise it so, they only carried the weapon and hid the

capsule in a safe place to retrieve later. They refused to travel in secret as that would

be obvious but, conceal into the crowds. In spite of that Peril found them. He crept

up and shoved them into a room demanding the weapon and as he had rule on New

York everyone was terrified at the thought of standing up to him. Jack and Lily had no

idea of what just happened and have fallen, unknowingly opening a trapped door.

Jack could not help himself and shouted “This is so cool a trap door in an abandoned

house”. Peril heard this and smashed the door open however, instead of rattling the

teens he merely chuckled. A wicked smile grew on his face “Look what I found here”.

Jack and Lily climbed out just to find that Peril had the weapon.

Answers

One poet who developed his writing style, poetic devices, language, and themes throughout his life was Robert Frost. His poetry is well known for its realistic depictions of rural life and his focus on nature. Frost’s writing style shifted throughout his life, from traditional verse to modernist styles, and his themes also shifted from simple descriptions of nature to more complex explorations of human nature and existence.

In his early work, Frost was known for his traditional verse, which included strict rhyme schemes and meter. His themes during this time were often focused on nature and rural life, with a focus on the people who lived in these settings. One of his early poems, “Mending Wall,” is an example of this style.

In this poem, Frost describes the annual ritual of mending a stone wall that divides his property from his neighbor’s. Through this depiction, Frost explores themes of isolation and the boundaries that people set between themselves.

As Frost matured, his style became less traditional, with less focus on strict rhyme schemes and meter. Instead, his poetry began to explore more complex themes, including the nature of existence and the human experience.

One example of this is his poem “The Road Not Taken,” which explores the idea of choice and the way that the choices we make affect our lives. This poem is also notable for its use of extended metaphor, which became a hallmark of Frost’s later work.

Overall, Frost’s poetry evolved over time as he explored new themes and experimented with new styles and poetic devices. His legacy as one of America’s most celebrated poets is a testament to the power of his work and its enduring impact on American literature.

He has some forward-thinking ideas. The king proposed using the public sphere, which is shaped like a giant theater, as a place where crime is punished and good is rewarded with a suitable imbalance in the most equitable manner possible. When a person was charged with a crime, his future was decided in the open. The king realized that his daughter had fallen in love with a brave young man. He is not, though, a royal by birth. Then, the king gets angry, and the young man is called to the public sphere or the arena, where he will be judged. The princess uses her cleverness to discover the location of the doors. The princess then gestures with her right hand so her lover can choose the right way. Meanwhile, the entire kingdom waits to discover if the door is hiding the lady or the tiger.
